THE LANGBERG FOUNDATION AWARDS FIRST GRANTS
The Trustees of the Langberg Foundation announced the awarding of three grants to programs that met the foundation's criteria for education innovation:
- The Mrican People's Action School, A Project of the We Are An Mrican People, Inc. of Trenton, NJ, received a grant to fund the school's Children's Theater Company. This program trains young students in the art of acting and dance to assist in developing self-esteem and responsibility to complement the overall education program of the school.
- The Open Charter School in Los Angeles, California, the first school in the Los Angeles Unified School District to granted charter status, received a grant to partially fund their Garden Program. The Garden Program provides practical hands-on experience for the urban students to learn about how animals, plants and environments are interconnected and the Program integrates studies in science, language, math, technology, art, geography, social studies and nutrition.
- The El Dorado High School in Placerville, California received funding for the acquisition of a bulletin board computer software program to support a World History Independent Study Program. The bulletin board would allow students to receive materials and information at their pace and file completed assignments electronically - a paperless classroom.
